Wells Motor Cars, the Warwickshire-based British marque, says it will increase output of its mid-engined Vertige sports coupé from 2026, with plans to build around 12 cars during the year before doubling production to roughly 24 vehicles in 2027.

Goodwood debut and a founder’s lightweight vision

The Vertige first appeared in 2021 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, showcasing company founder Robin Wells’s long-held aim of creating a lightweight, driver-focused sports car. Limited-series production of the Founders Edition began in 2023.

Engine options and ultra-light kerb weight

The coupé tips the scales at about 850 kg and is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Ford Duratec four-cylinder engine producing 208 hp. Buyers can also choose the R version, which raises output to 250 hp and delivers a power-to-weight figure of 212.5 hp per tonne.

Wells says the chassis was engineered after the exterior design had been signed off, then tailored to suit the car’s compact footprint.

Cabin layout keeps controls simple

Inside, the Vertige features analogue dials and a small infotainment display with Apple CarPlay support, alongside a range of trim and upholstery choices. Robin Wells has described the car as deliberately straightforward to live with, avoiding complex electronic menu systems.

Hand-built, low-volume production

Positioned as a niche sports car for 2026, the Wells Vertige will continue to be produced by hand in small batches.
