Honor unveils Magic V6 folding phone with record battery and tougher build

Honor has pulled the wraps off its new foldable smartphone, the Magic V6, aiming squarely at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line by combining an unusually large battery with major upgrades to durability-without significantly increasing bulk.

The announcement lands as Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona gets under way this weekend, a period when phone makers traditionally showcase their biggest hardware launches. Honor, once a sub-brand of Huawei, has steadily built a reputation for premium foldables, and the Magic V6 is positioned as its latest attempt to push the format forward.

A 6,660 mAh battery in a foldable - and still under 9 mm when closed

The headline feature is battery capacity. According to 01net, the China version of the Magic V6 carries a 6,660 mAh battery-claimed to be a first for a foldable handset.

Honor says it achieved the jump by redesigning the phone’s internal layout and adopting silicon–carbon battery technology, which can pack more energy into the same space. The company is claiming up to 24 hours of battery life when the device is used unfolded.

Despite the bigger battery, Honor says the Magic V6 remains slim, measuring 8.75 mm thick when folded. The firm is again branding it as the “thinnest foldable smartphone” in the industry.

Stronger hinge, higher water and dust ratings, and a less visible crease

Honor is also placing heavy emphasis on durability-an area where foldables continue to face consumer scepticism.

On the Magic V6, the manufacturer says it has reinforced the hinge and that the mechanism is designed to withstand 500,000 folding and unfolding cycles. It has also secured IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance, which Honor describes as a first for a foldable phone.

In addition, the company claims improved drop and scratch resistance, while also working to make the central display crease less noticeable.

High-end specifications as foldable competition heats up

For now, the Magic V6’s most direct rivals are Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models. But Honor may soon face pressure from Apple as well: industry rumours suggest a first foldable iPhone could arrive in September, increasing competition in the premium foldable market.

Honor appears to be avoiding compromises on core hardware. The Magic V6 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, described as a flagship-class chip for Android phones in 2026.

According to Journal du Geek, the display configuration includes:

  • 6.52-inch outer screen with a claimed 6,000 nits peak brightness
  • 7.95-inch inner screen when unfolded with a claimed 5,000 nits peak brightness

On cameras, Honor says the Magic V6 will offer the best telephoto system on a foldable phone, highlighted by a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor.

Release timing and price remain unclear outside China

Journal du Geek reports that the phone is not expected to arrive in France until the second half of 2026, and pricing has not yet been announced. Honor has also formally introduced the Honor MagicPad 4, a tablet the outlet says it has already tested.
