Nothing unveils the Phone (4a), a new mid-range handset aimed at keeping prices low

Nothing has announced the Nothing Phone (4a), a new mid-range smartphone it hopes will stand out with distinctive design features while undercutting rivals on price. The device is being presented ahead of MWC 2026, with availability set for 13 March and pre-orders now open.

The London-founded brand says it is building on strong momentum: phone sales rose 145% from 2024 to 2025, while overall product sales increased 365% over the same period. The Phone (4a) follows the Phone (3a) and arrives roughly four years after the company’s first handset, the Nothing Phone (1).

A familiar transparent look, now with new colour options

Nothing is again leaning heavily on its signature styling, using a transparent rear panel that reveals carefully arranged internal patterns. This time, the line-up expands beyond the usual black and white finishes to include blue and pink variants.

While the Phone (4a) may not feel “premium” in the hand, the company is betting that its unconventional appearance will appeal to buyers who want something different in the mid-range bracket.

Glyph lighting returns in a redesigned LED bar

The brand’s Glyph lighting system is back, but it has been reworked into a customisable LED bar. Nothing says users can tailor the bar’s behaviour to different apps and set distinct animations for different callers.

One example offered is a timer feature, where the LED bar gradually empties as time runs down.

Specifications: Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, 1.5K AMOLED and 50W charging

Beyond design, Nothing has upgraded the core hardware. The Phone (4a) runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and features a 6.79-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate from 30Hz to 120Hz.

Power comes from a 5,080mAh battery with 50W fast charging. For photography, the handset uses a triple rear-camera system: a 50-megapixel main (wide) camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide. Nothing has previously been criticised for camera performance and says it is working to improve this area.

Software-wise, the device ships with Android 16 and Nothing OS 4.1. Nothing is promising three years of software updates and six years of security updates.
